A day in the life of hobby ranchers
One thing I hate about having livestock is greeting the morning with these words, "The cows are out." This was one of those mornings and being Sunday to boot. Fortunately there were only two out. Unfortunately they were in a pasture that was standing in 6 inches of water. So we sloshed our way through. One thing I have learned about cows is they have to see and sometimes be with those they love. Walking to the gate which was in the opposite direction of their calves was not an easy task until one calf went through the barbed wire to her mom. This occurred only after all the cows were bellowing for their calves,a sound that echoed for miles. We ended back home with our pants soaked to mid calf and shoes that hold water after 30 minutes, one of our shorter and easier times. All and all I am hoping to not hear those words tomorrow, but until the water recedes I can't truly fix the problem, so we will see.
